Collusion and TeamPoker® - Why It's Not A Problem
- Cheating: - As in any tournament telling or signaling to anyone, or one of your own teammates, what hand you have, is cheating and strictly prohibited and cause for ejection from the tournament and all Team Poker events.
- Collusion: - Webster Def.: n. Secret agreement for some wrongful purpose; as, a man in collusion with thieves. Players can collude and cheat in any tournament …but for the most part they don't.
- Teaming Up: - As long as no one is cheating … “teaming up” against opponents can potentially happen and can add excitement to a tournament. Use your imagination with pros and ‘wanta bes' at the final table.
- Structure: - The structure of TeamPoker is flexible and one basic approach is to avoid seating players of the same team together, either initially at the start, or as tables are consolidated. Tournament Directors and personnel can direct players of the same team to different tables, thus, minimizing teaming-up potential and teammates knocking fellow teammates out of Team Poker® tournament.
- Payout: - Team Poker® encourages and allows for a percentage of the tournament funds to go to the individual winners as well as the teams.
- Announce: - Whenever teams are first seated or a player or players are added to a table, the players on the same team are required to announce they are teammates. The dealers are responsible to monitor this. Players that do not identify this are subject to penalties and or ejection from tournaments, based on Tournament Directors discretion.
- Known: - In Team Poker® it is understood that teams are playing other teams. Since this is known, teammates are known, it tends to negate collusion potential. This can be accomplished in several ways including uniforms/ outfits, card protectors, and icons to name a few. It is important that the dealers in Team Poker® maintain the knowledge and announce to the tables that team mates are on the poker table as tables consolidate and change, etc.
- Gaming: - Since some teams / players may wish to increase their Finish Equalization Number (FEN) they may opt for less players in tournaments, thus, avoiding intra- team competition and collusion potential.
- Stategies: - Team Strategies can include losing chips to team mates to keep them in the game or "taking it easy" on teammates. These strategies can be risky in Team Poker®
- Internet Play: - Team Poker® internet play should take into account that players from the same team are playing in the tournaments. Therefore, icons must provide the identification of teams for TeamdPoker® internet poker play. It is understood that team mates on the internet may know each others cards, and Team Poker® players should take this into consideration and play accordingly.
